Q1. When will my hair look natural and start to grow after the procedure?
About one month after surgery, you may experience temporary shedding of the transplanted hairs, known as "shock loss." New hair growth typically begins around 3–4 months, and fully
natural, satisfying results are visible around 9–12 months.
-
Q2. Is the hair transplant procedure painful?
The procedure is performed using sedation and local anesthesia, so you will feel
virtually no pain during surgery. Any mild discomfort afterward can be effectively
managed with prescribed pain medication.
-
Q3. How soon can I return to normal daily activities after the surgery?
You can usually resume normal daily activities within 3–5 days after surgery.
However, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, sauna, or intense activities
for 1–2 weeks to ensure optimal healing.
-
Q4. Will there be noticeable scars after the surgery?
The FUE method leaves tiny pinpoint scars that are virtually invisible. The FUT
method leaves a thin linear scar at the back of the scalp, which is easily concealed
by surrounding hair, rarely affecting daily appearance.
-
Q5. What's the difference between FUT and FUE, and what are the pros and cons of each method?
FUT (Strip method): A narrow strip of scalp is removed from the donor area
(usually the back of the head). Like removing a strip of grass from healthy soil,
FUT enables extraction of many follicles at once, offering shorter surgery time
and higher graft survival. However, sufficient scalp elasticity is required, and it
leaves a thin linear scar (usually hidden by hair).
FUE (Individual extraction): Follicles are individually harvested, similar to
picking fruit carefully one by one. FUE can be performed even with limited scalp
elasticity, leaves almost no visible scars, and offers quicker recovery. However,
large procedures take longer, and results greatly depend on the surgeon’s skill to
prevent follicle damage.
-
Q6. Will the transplanted hair last permanently?
Yes. Transplanted hair follicles are taken from the back of the scalp, which are
genetically resistant to balding. Therefore, transplanted hairs usually remain
permanently.
-
Q7. In what situations do you recommend scalp micropigmentation (SMP)?
If you desire higher visual hair density or feel your hair transplant results could
appear fuller, adding scalp micropigmentation can enhance visual density effectively.
Combining SMP with a hair transplant often provides the most natural and satisfying
outcomes.
-
Q8. How exactly do FUT and FUE differ, and what are their specific advantages and disadvantages?
Hair transplantation primarily includes two techniques:
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation - strip method):
In this method, a strip of scalp tissue is surgically removed from the donor area at
the back of the head. Like transferring grass sod in a strip, FUT enables
harvesting large numbers of follicles at once, resulting in shorter surgery times
and excellent graft survival rates. However, FUT requires good scalp elasticity
and leaves a thin linear scar, typically concealed easily by hair.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction):
FUE involves carefully extracting individual follicles one at a time, much like
picking fruit from a tree individually. It’s suitable even if scalp elasticity is limited,
leaves minimal pinpoint scars, and ensures quicker healing due to its minimally
invasive nature. The drawback is that large sessions may require more time, and
follicle survival highly depends on the expertise of the surgical team.
-
Q9. Does scalp micropigmentation (SMP) truly look natural?
Scalp micropigmentation does not create actual hair follicles or hairs. Instead, it
carefully positions pigment at the shallow boundary between the epidermis and
dermis (1–1.5mm depth), creating the optical illusion of real hair follicles. We perform
precise layering through 2–3 sessions, using 5.5x magnifying loupes to ensure a
realistic appearance even up close.
-
Q10. How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
Results typically last around 3–5 years. Afterward, simple touch-up sessions can
maintain your natural look even longer. We carefully insert the pigment at a shallow
depth (1–1.5mm between epidermis and dermis) to minimize the spread or fading of
pigment over time.
-
Q11. Is the SMP procedure painful?
Our SMP method at Morgan Dermatology involves positioning pigment precisely at
the epidermal-dermal boundary (1–1.5mm depth). Because it’s performed at such a
shallow depth, no topical anesthetic cream is needed, and the procedure is virtually
pain-free.
-
Q12. Can I resume normal activities immediately after SMP?
You can resume daily activities right after the procedure without downtime. However,
we recommend avoiding strong sun exposure for about one week afterward to
ensure long-lasting, clear results.
-
Q13. Are there hairstyle limitations after SMP?
Scalp micropigmentation doesn't physically add hair, but it enhances visual density
and fullness through an optical illusion. Thus, there are no hairstyle limitations; in
fact, it broadens your styling options significantly.
